Why is leadership important in keeping aircraft flying safely?

Most people I have been in contact with over the years are bright, knowledgeable, and motivated. Give them a task, or let them define the task, and they will do a good job. Is that not enough?

In the context of a global world with expanding technologies and challenges, no it is not good enough. Simply because it should not be up to the individual employee to ensure compliance and safety in an evolving world. This is a company responsibility and it becomes a leadership issue to do this effectively.

Leadership becomes the core skill that allows the organization to effectively recognize and adapt to the dynamics of the world in which it operates, including operational challenges and airworthiness. Leadership is a trainable skill. Just as technical skills are required to safely maintain and operate aircraft, leadership skills are required to keep the purpose of the organization matched to the safety requirements.

The core capability of the organization.

This is why we focus on the development of leadership, organization, process, competence and capability. All of these areas align to build and sustain the life-cycle commitments of the company and the organization.
